Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Kiev on a one-day visit to Ukraine. On reaching there, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi. During this, the two leaders first shook hands and then hugged each other. After this, both the leaders reached the Ukraine National Museum, where they paid tribute to the children killed in the war. During this, there was a picture of the devastation of the Ukraine war on the wall, seeing which PM Modi also looked emotional. He then tried to console and encourage Ukrainian President Zelensky, who was walking with him, by placing his hand on his shoulder.
In diplomacy, important messages are hidden in gestures
In politics, especially diplomacy, the gestures and dialogues of politicians and diplomats are very important and many messages are hidden in them. When 73-year-old Prime Minister Modi placed his hand on the shoulders of 46-year-old Ukrainian President Zelensky, it sent a message to the whole world that India stands with the struggle and spirit of Ukraine in this hour of grave calamity, pain and sorrow. During this, both the leaders looked compassionate and emotional after seeing the horrific pictures of war. When PM Modi placed his hand on Zelensky’s shoulder, both the leaders were looking at the picture in which a city is shown turning into rubble due to Russian aggression.
Reached Kiev after 10 hours of travel by train
Prime Minister Modi reached Kiev by train after a 10-hour journey from Poland. When he reached Kiev, Ukrainian diplomats welcomed him with folded hands in Indian style by saying Namaste. After this Zelensky went forward and shook hands with him and then both hugged each other. This is the fourth meeting between the two leaders. PM Modi has reached Kiev on the invitation of Zelensky. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine after it separated from the Soviet Union and became an independent country in 1991. PM Modi was on a visit to Moscow six weeks before the Kiev visit.
All eyes are on PM Modi’s visit
The eyes of the whole world are fixed on PM Modi’s visit. It is being said that PM Modi’s visit can lead the Russia-Ukraine war towards a peace agreement. Prime Minister Modi is also friends with Russian President Putin, so it is expected that he can give some advice to both the countries towards a peace agreement. Let us tell you that India has already refused to become a mediator between the two countries and has said that both the countries will have to find a peaceful solution to the war through mutual dialogue.
During PM Modi’s Ukraine visit, US also made a move, why is the timing special for all three
Prime Minister Modi will be in Kiev for seven hours. Meanwhile, Modi will hold first one-on-one and then delegation-level talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky, focusing on ways to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue. The Prime Minister’s visit to Kiev is being seen in many circles as a diplomatic balance, as his visit to Russia had caused resentment in Western countries.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv this morning on a historic official visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” the Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a post on ‘X’. The Prime Minister traveled from Poland to Kyiv by ‘Rail Force One’ train, which took about 10 hours. This is the last leg of Modi’s two-nation visit.
Embraced, then kept hand on shoulder; This was the meeting of PM Modi and Zelensky
About six weeks before his visit to Kiev, Modi had visited Russia, during which he held extensive discussions with President Vladimir Putin on the issue of ending the conflict. After talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Modi said on Thursday that the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia are a matter of “deep concern” and “dialogue and diplomacy” are the only way to restore peace. He said, “India strongly believes that no problem is solved on the battlefield. The loss of innocent lives in any crisis is a big challenge for the entire humanity.”
Modi had talked to Zelensky during the G-7 summit in Apulia, Italy in June. During the talks, Modi told the Ukrainian President that India would do everything it could to support a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict. He said that peace can be brought only through ‘dialogue and diplomacy’. (With Bhasha inputs)
