Something happened at the residence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday which shocked everyone. Actually, a German minister had gone to meet Shahbaz Sharif. But what happened to her at the door of the house could have created a diplomatic deadlock between Pakistan and Germany.
According to WION’s report, Germany’s Union Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulz had reached Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s official residence for a pre-scheduled meeting. But, when the German minister was entering the Pak PM’s residence, the security officials asked her to leave her bag there. They said that they would check the bag.
The German minister protested. She flatly refused to have her bag checked. In the viral video, one of the officials can be heard saying “This is protocol.” Then the minister talks to German Ambassador to Pakistan Alfred Granus. During this, displeasure is clearly visible on her face.
Not only this, after talking to each other, both of them turn towards their car. The German ambassador says, “Thank you, bye-bye.” After such humiliation, the German minister starts going back without meeting Shahbaz Sharif. Seeing this, the security officers adopt a soft approach and allow the minister to enter the building with her bag.
According to German media, the German side had held detailed discussions on this issue with Pakistani security before the meeting. Schulz also wanted to bring a photographer with her to the meeting, but the Pakistani side rejected this request as well. But when the officials asked her to leave her bag, she got angry. Due to which she almost cancelled the meeting and a diplomatic crisis arose. But in the end everything went according to plan. Prime Minister Sharif welcomed Schulz to dinner in the presence of almost his entire cabinet.
