87 kg gold and 100 kg silver seized from Odisha airport, jewellery worth crores – Hindustan News Hub

Bhubaneswar: A big news is coming from Odisha. Here the Commercial Tax and Goods Service Tax Department (CT&GST) has seized a large amount of gold and silver. The authority has seized this gold and silver from 2 containers. The amount of gold and silver was so huge that even the officers were surprised to see it. After seizing the gold and silver, the authority has started investigating the matter.

Officials seized a huge amount of gold and silver near Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar. Giving information, Ajay Kumar Sethi, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax here, said that the total weight of the gold packet was 87 kg, but the net weight may be less. At the same time, silver was measured more than 100 kg. Its price is being estimated to be around Rs 30 crore in the market. Investigation into the matter has been started.

Jewellery was filled in two containers

“We seized two containers on Monday. One container had silver jewellery while the other container was filled with gold along with silver jewellery,” Sethi said. He further said that the consignment was received through two private airlines from Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. The consignment was meant for several traders in and around Bhubaneswar.

Sethi further said that this consignment was brought to Bhubaneswar by Indigo and Vistara flights. These gold and silver ornaments were kept in boxes. If any goods are found without proper bill, then action will be taken as per GST Act and rules.

Jewellery going to at least 12 jewellery stores

Meanwhile, according to local media, CT and GST Deputy Commissioner Manas Swain said that the gold and silver, which were mostly in the form of jewellery, were being taken to at least 12 jewellery stores. However, the owners of the precious metals could not produce the required documents including tax invoices. Therefore, our officers seized the gold and silver. The owner has been asked to appear before the concerned authorities and produce all the documents. If he fails to do so within the stipulated time period, the seized gold and silver will be sent to the government treasury.
