World number one tennis player Jannik Sinner has created history by winning the US Open 2024 title. He has become the first Italian player to win the US Open Men’s Singles title. Jannik Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz of America in straight sets in the final and won the title. Sinner defeated Fritz 6-3, 6-4 and 7-5 in the match played at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. This was Sinner’s second Grand Slam this year, as he also won the Australian Open in 2024. He also reached the semi-finals of the French Open.
Sinner raised his arms in celebration after beating Fritz to win the title as Arthur Ashe Stadium erupted in cheers. Even though home fans were hoping Fritz would end the 21-year US men’s Grand Slam drought, Sinner didn’t let that happen. Sinner was embroiled in controversy at the start of the tournament after he twice tested positive for anabolic agents in March but escaped a ban after an independent tribunal accepted his claim that the positive test was due to inadvertent contamination.
After winning the title, Janik said, “We just went day by day, tried to practice well, even on days off, believed in ourselves which is the most important. I understood, especially in this tournament, how important the mental part is in this game. I want to thank everyone for being so fair in this wonderful arena. It was a great pleasure.” You will be surprised to know that Janik has defeated three American players in this tournament including the final. 12th seed Fritz was also considered a title contender, but Janik showed a charismatic game.
