Today is the birth anniversary of the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Govind Ballabh Pant. Actually, on this day, 10 September 1887, Govind Ballabh Pant was born in a Brahmin family of Khunt village in Almora district. He started his political life from Bareilly but he had no special attachment to this city. In a way, coming to Bareilly is his political need. Because after independence, when the country was divided, in the first assembly elections of the country in 1951, Congress sent him to contest from Bareilly city seat. Let us tell you that he won this seat. After this, the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru announced to make Govind Ballabh Pant the first Chief Minister of UP.

Govind Ballabh Pant is considered to be one of Jawaharlal Nehru’s close friends. There are many such incidents in his lifetime which are very interesting. We are going to tell you about an interesting incident today. Actually this incident is from the time when Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He was counted among honest politicians. He neither took special government facilities nor used government money for his personal work. Actually it was when Govind Ballabh Pant was in a government meeting. Here tea and snacks were arranged. When its bill came for approval, six annas and twelve annas were written in the account.

Govind Ballabh Pant refused to pass the bill

After this, Govind Ballabh Pant refused to pass this bill. When he was asked the reason for not passing the bill, Govind Ballabh Pant said that in government meetings, there is a rule to order only tea from government expenses. In such a situation, the person who has made the bill for breakfast should pay it himself. He further said that yes, the bill for tea can definitely be passed. During this, when the officials said that there is no problem in ordering breakfast with tea sometimes and there will be no problem in passing this bill. Let us tell you that in that day’s meeting, Govind Ballabh Pant himself had ordered breakfast with tea. After this, when the time came to pay the bill, Pant ji took out some money from his pocket after thinking a bit and told the officials, “The bill for tea can be passed, but not for breakfast.”

Pant said- this money belongs to the people of the country

He said that breakfast was ordered for that meeting, whose bill I will pay. I cannot allow the breakfast expenses to be met from government expenses. The public of the country will always have the right over the government treasury, not us ministers and the government. He said that how can we spend the public’s money on ourselves and our work. After this, all the officials present there assured Govind Ballabh Pant that no government rule will be violated in future. When Govind Ballabh Pant heard this from the officials, he was relieved and he got busy with work.
