Situation worsened again in Manipur, curfew imposed in three districts including Imphal

In view of the violence in Manipur, curfew has been imposed in three districts including the capital Imphal. Last night, women took out a torchlight procession in protest against the drone attack. On Monday, protesters pelted stones at the Raj Bhavan. The administration has taken this decision in view of the deteriorating law and order and attacks. Curfew has been imposed in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal.

According to the information, curfew has been imposed in these districts for an indefinite period and people have been advised to stay indoors. Section 162 (2) of BNSS has been implemented in Imphal East and Imphal West districts. The DM’s order states that in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the district, curfew is being imposed from 11 am on September 10. It will remain in force till further orders.

Essential services like electricity, courts, health along with media have been exempted from curfew. Reports said that students were going to protest on a large scale to remove the DGP and security advisor. In such a situation, restrictions were imposed in three districts. Hundreds of school and college students stayed overnight in Khwarimband market. Women gave them a place to camp. On Monday, thousands of students protested outside the Manipur Secretariat and Raj Bhavan. At least eight people have died and more than 12 have been injured in the recent incidents of violence.

The students also met the Chief Minister and the Governor. The student representative said that they have placed six demands before the government. This includes the demand to remove the DGP and the security advisor. The students have also said that the command of the unified force should be handed over to the state government. At present, the responsibility of this is with CRPF DG Kuldeep Singh.

A 46-year-old woman died after she was caught in a clash between two armed groups in Kangpokpi district, police said on Tuesday. They said the incident took place in the remote Thangbuh village on Sunday night. They said some houses in the village were also set on fire, forcing locals to take shelter in nearby forests. Police said the deceased woman was identified as Nemjakhol Lhungdim. The woman’s body was handed over to her family after post-mortem at the Churachandpur district hospital.
