The Pakistan Cricket Board has allocated Rs 12.8 billion to renovate stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi ahead of next year’s ICC Champions Trophy, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said. At a Board of Governors meeting in Faisalabad, Naqvi assured that all three venues will be ready in time to host the Champions Trophy.
Giving details of the distribution of funds, Naqvi said that out of Rs 12.8 billion, Rs 7.7 billion is being spent on the renovation of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. According to Naqvi, Rs 523 million is being spent to replace floodlights in Gaddafi Stadium, while Rs 375 million has been allocated for spectator seats and Rs 93 million for external development works.
The PCB is also spending Rs 3.5 billion on the National Stadium in Karachi and Rs 1.5 billion on the renovation of the Rawalpindi Stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board will use new floodlights in the stadiums of Karachi and Lahore for the Champions Trophy early next year. The PCB has decided to shift the floodlights already installed in Karachi to Quetta and the floodlights in Lahore to Rawalpindi to save costs.
