Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and appealed for world peace and said that the success of humanity lies not in the battlefield but in collective strength. The Prime Minister made this remark at the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’ against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts across the world, including the Israel-Hamas war and the Ukraine crisis. Addressing the summit, the Prime Minister said that when the international community is discussing the future of the world, the highest priority should be given to a “human-centric approach”.

Without naming any specific conflict, he said, “The success of humanity lies in our collective strength, not in the battlefield.” The Prime Minister emphasized that while giving priority to sustainable development, human welfare, food and health security should also be ensured. He raised the issue of conflict and terrorism in new areas like cyber, sea, space in the United Nations and said that global action on these issues should be in line with global ambition.

Prime Minister Modi said that terrorism remains a serious threat to global peace and security. He said, “By lifting 25 crore people out of poverty in India, we have demonstrated that sustainable development can be successful.” The Prime Minister also said that India is ready to share this experience of its success with the entire ‘Global South’.

The term ‘Global South’ is usually used to refer to economically less developed countries or developing countries. PM Modi called for reforms in global institutions and said that these are necessary for global peace and development. Let us tell you that at this time a large-scale war is going on on three fronts. Although bilateral conflicts are going on between many countries around the world, but the most important at the moment are the Israel-Hamas war and the Ukraine-Russia war. Now the Israel-Lebanon war has also been added to it. This has again deepened the crisis in the Middle East and global peace has come under threat.
