In 2015, a case was registered against a man named Randhir in Ranchi under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for having physical relations with his wife against her will.
According to India Today report, in 2016 the woman had also filed a dowry case against Randhir. During the investigation the police found evidence against him and after a trial lasting more than nine years, he was convicted. The court will now pronounce the sentence on September 30. In another case earlier this week, a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district had sentenced a 36-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his widowed mother.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 51 thousand on accused Abid. The incident occurred on January 16, 2023, when the 60-year-old woman and the accused had gone to a field near their house to bring fodder for animals. When the mother was busy bringing fodder, Abid attacked her, stuffed a cloth in her mouth and then raped her.
The government lawyer said that after the incident, Abid told his mother that he wanted her to live like his wife. He also threatened her that if she told anyone about the incident, he would kill her. Despite threats from her son, the woman informed her neighbors about the incident, who then informed the victim’s younger son about the incident.
