How many medical colleges increased in the country after 2014? Central government replied in Parliament

At present there are 706 medical colleges in the country.

New Delhi: There is often a discussion on social media in the country that what has Prime Minister Narendra Modi done for the medical sector after coming to power? Or how many medical colleges has the Central Government opened after 2014. The same question was asked to the government in the Parliament and the answer has come out. The government on Tuesday said the number of medical colleges in the country has increased by 82 per cent and MBBS seats have increased by 112 per cent since 2014.

‘PG seats increased to 70,674’

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Health Bharati Praveen Pawar said that the number of PG medical seats has increased by 127 percent in the same period. He said the number of medical colleges has increased from 387 in 2014 to 706 at present and in the same period, MBBS seats increased from 51,348 to 1,08,940, while PG seats increased from 31,185 to 70,674. Pawar said that in addition, construction of 157 medical colleges has been approved. He said that 108 of these are functional.

’27 medical colleges approved in UP’

Pawar said the construction of the colleges has been approved in 3 phases and the funding for it has been shared between the central and state governments. The minister said that as per the guidelines of the scheme, planning, execution and commissioning of the projects are to be done by the state governments. Under this scheme, 27 medical colleges have been approved in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 13 are functional. Meanwhile, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, in response to another question, said that till November 28, more than 3 crore Ayushman cards have been made under the Ayushman Bhava campaign.

‘Most Ayushman cards are made in UP’

Union Health Minister Mandaviya said that maximum number of Ayushman cards have been made in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. The Ayushman Bhava campaign includes ‘Ayushman – Aapke Dwar 3.0’, ‘Ayushman Mela’ and ‘Ayushman Sabha’. Mandaviya said that till November 28, 3,00,24,031 Ayushman cards were made under the Ayushman Bhava campaign.
