China’s PM meets President Zardari, Pakistan supports ‘One-China’ policy – Hindustan News Hub

China PM Li Qiang Meets Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari

Islamabad: Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang is on a four-day visit to Islamabad. Kiang is participating in the meeting of heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries chaired by Pakistan. Meanwhile, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang has met President Asif Ali Zardari. During the meeting, the two leaders reiterated their commitment to further deepen strategic cooperation in various areas including economy, investment and regional connectivity. Both sides also stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

‘It’s time to take advantage’

Welcoming the Chinese delegation, the President emphasized that Pakistan’s friendship with its all-weather partner remains the cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy, he also stressed the importance of exploring new avenues for cooperation. He underlined the need to enhance connectivity through all-weather road network to strengthen trade and people-to-people ties between the two countries. Zardari said that Chinese companies should take advantage of investment opportunities in Pakistan by investing in the Pakistan Stock Exchange. “The time has come to take full advantage of China’s economic growth, especially through the opportunities provided by CPEC and Gwadar Port,” Zardari said.

Pakistan supported ‘One-China’ policy

Pakistan President said he will visit China in November and looks forward to reconnecting with old friends and engaging in discussions to further strengthen bilateral ties. Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s support to China on all major issues including the ‘One-China’ policy, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong, Xinjiang and the South China Sea.

Lee praised Pakistan

Prime Minister Li praised Pakistan for providing firm support to China on all major issues and said China will continue to support Pakistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and prosperity. Li Qiang also held talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and both sides agreed to further enhance their cooperation. This is the first visit of a Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan in 11 years.
