Detroit: The political temperature is high regarding the presidential elections in America. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has pushed for legislation to deal with discriminatory enforcement policies, saying Republican nominee Donald Trump will try to ‘institutionalize’ harsh policing tactics. He said this would have a disproportionate impact on black men across the country.
Black people are discriminated against
Speaking to Charlamagne, host of the radio program ‘The Breakfast Club’, Kamala Harris said that she would work to decriminalize marijuana, which leads to the highest number of arrests of black people. He also admitted that black people face racial discrimination in everyday life. The US presidential election is near and while on one hand Harris has raised the issue of black men, on the other hand Trump focused on women in a ‘Fox News’ program in Georgia.
the competition is tough
Before the final votes are cast in the presidential election, Harris and Trump are trying to energize voters in key constituencies where the race looks tight. If Harris wins the election, she will become the first woman President of the country. She is trying to woo women while Trump is being soft on the issues of black men, who have overwhelmingly supported the Democratic Party in the past. (AP)
