The ISSF World Cup final is being played in New Delhi, the capital of India, in which Indian shooter Akhil Sheoran won the medal on Wednesday, 16 October. Akhil won bronze medal in men’s 50 meter rifle three positions. In this way, this medal brought a relief to Akhil in this year full of disappointments. Actually, this year has been quite disappointing for Akhil Sheoran, a resident of Baghpan. He had secured the Paris Olympics quota during the World Championships in Baku last year but then he suffered an injury during the Olympic selection trials in New Delhi and Bhopal. Because of this he could not go to Paris and his dream of winning an Olympic medal was shattered.

He won this medal by defeating Paris Olympics gold medalist Liu Yukun of China. Hungary’s Istvan Peni won the gold medal in the Karni Singh Range. Apart from Akhil, other Indian shooters disappointed. Both Aashi Choksi and Nischal could not secure their place in the medal round in women’s 50 meter rifle 3 positions. At the same time, Olympian Rhythm Sangwan missed the bronze medal in the third place shoot-off with the Chinese shooter in 25 meter sports pistol. However, Akhil remained patient and won India’s second medal in the final tournament of the year with a score of 452.6. Whereas, Istvan Penny scored 465.3 points in the final.

Earlier, Akhil had finished sixth in the qualification round with a score of 589 and made it to the final among eight shooters. The other Indian shooter participating in the event, Chain Singh, finished fourth with a score of 592. However, he finished seventh in the final. In the women’s 50m rifle three positions qualification, Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist Ashi finished ninth in the team event with a score of 587. Nischal stood 10th with a score of 585.
