Delhi Capitals has appointed former India cricketer as its head coach. He has also revealed the name of his cricket director.
Delhi has appointed a former cricketer as its head coach who has the experience of playing only 4 Tests and 40 ODIs. The name of this former cricketer is Hemang Badani. 47 year old Hemang was a part of the Indian team from 2001 to 2004. During this period he played only 44 international matches. Delhi has appointed Hemang Badani as the head coach while Venugopal Rao has been made its cricket director.
Hemang Badani’s coaching experience
Hemang Badani has been a part of the coaching staff in many cricket leagues. Between 2021-23, he worked with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL as fielding coach and batting coach. He also led the Jaffna Kings franchise to two consecutive Lanka Premier League titles. Badani also worked as the batting coach with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team that won the SA20 title in the inaugural edition. Badani was also the head coach of the Dubai Capitals team, which reached the ILT20 final this year.
Venugopal Rao, who has played 16 ODIs for India, was part of the 2009 IPL-winning team with Deccan Chargers. He has played 3 seasons of IPL with Delhi Daredevils (2011–13). He has also been a part of Dubai Capitals. He worked as a mentor for Dubai Capitals in their inaugural season and as Director of Cricket in the following season.
