Railway police said that four sanitation workers, including two women from Tamil Nadu, died after they were hit by Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala Express near Shoranur railway station on Saturday evening. The New Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram train hit the workers around 3.05 pm when they were clearing garbage from the railway track near Shoranur bridge, a few kilometers from the railway station. Employees contracted by the Railways for cleaning work fell off the track due to the collision. Police said three bodies have been recovered from the area, while efforts are being made to trace the fourth body, which is suspected to have fallen into the Bharatpuzha river. A team of Railway Police reached the spot. “It is possible that the staff may not have seen the train coming, which led to the accident, but further investigation is underway,” said a Shoranur railway police official.
