Arun Jaitley Jayanti Special: On 28th December, two such personalities were born in India. Who changed both the condition and direction of the country. One was born in the year 1932 in Gujarat and the other in the year 1952 in the country’s capital Delhi. The first person made his name known across the world from the country’s financial capital Mumbai, while the second made his name known throughout the country from the country’s capital Delhi. The first person was Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Group and the second was Arun Jaitley, the former Finance Minister of the country and one of the best friends of the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In this article we will talk about Arun Jaitley, who was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and then Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s best friend. It was said about Arun Jaitley that once he considered someone as his friend, he would fight with the whole world for him. He considered the problems of his friends as his own problems and would go to any extent to solve them. Talking politically, there would hardly be any party whose leaders he was not friends with.

When friendship came in handy to pass the bill in Rajya Sabha
Its hallmark was seen in the first term of Narendra Modi government. Had brought the bills of Modi government. NDA had absolute majority in Lok Sabha, but NDA did not have majority in Rajya Sabha. Therefore, many times he had to take the support of opposition MPs to pass the bills. One such opportunity came in the year 2017. A bill had to be passed in the Rajya Sabha but the government did not have the majority. The responsibility of Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha was with Arun Jaitley and he asked the then Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Aggarwal that his party should support him in passing it.
The opposition was hoping that this bill would fall in the Rajya Sabha and they would get a kind of moral victory. But perhaps he did not know that Arun Jaitley had already talked to Naresh Aggarwal about passing the bill on the basis of his friendship. The bill was placed on the table of the House and along with NDA, SP MPs also voted in support of this bill. The bill was passed from the House. However, after the death of Arun Jaitley, Naresh Aggarwal narrated this story in his memory, only then the common people including the opposition MPs came to know about it.

Jaitley started his career as a lawyer
Arun Jaitley started his career as a lawyer. He was counted among the biggest lawyers of the country, but got so entangled in political life that he had to hire lawyers to fight his cases also. He once told in India TV’s show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ that he did not come into politics with much expectations, but the public and his party will give him such love and support that he will have to leave advocacy. Arun Jaitley was once the lawyer of big leaders like BJP’s backbone Lal Krishna Advani, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Madhavrao Scindia and JDU leader Sharad Yadav.
Finance and Defense ministries merged into Modi government
When Arun Jaitley joined the Modi cabinet after BJP’s victory in 2014, he got important ministries like Finance Minister and Defense Minister. After some time it started being said that this is more like Jaitley government than Modi government. Because it was believed that whatever the decision for the economic reform of the country, PM Modi did not take any decision without Jaitley’s advice. During the last tenure of Modi government, when he was the Finance Minister, transformative steps like demonetization, GST, Jan Dhan Yojana and Direct Benefit Transfer were taken in the country.

Today is his birth anniversary. It is said that when he was alive, there used to be a gathering of his friends at his place. He used to go back in time with his friends. On this day he used to forget that he is such a powerful person in the country. An incident of this was also shared by India TV’s Editor in Chief and Chairman Rajat Sharma. He told that every year Arun Jaitley’s birthday was an opportunity to meet friends and listen to Arun ji for hours. But now only his words and his memories remain with all of us.
Rajat Sharma narrates an anecdote that I went to my college on the first day, where I had change while paying the fees. Seeing these, the fee collecting officers got enraged. He started shouting at me as to why he had brought this change. After much persuasion he agreed to take them. After this, when he found four rupees less in it, his temper was at its peak. At that time Arun Jaitley came there and scolded that officer severely. After this he took out five rupees from his hand and deposited my fees. After this he took me to the canteen and sat there and served me tea.
