Vitiligo is called ‘Shvitra’ in the language of Ayurveda. It is an autoimmune skin disease. White spots appear on the body of the affected person. However, this disease occurs due to the destruction of melanin, which determines the color of the skin, eyes and hair. But in the society, this disease is associated with many reasons like untouchability. These concepts sometimes also cause depression in patients of vitiligo. Therefore, every year on 25th June i.e. World Vitiligo Day is celebrated to bring awareness among the people.
The disease of white spots lasts for a long time. But it is not contagious or deadly. Vitiligo affects people of all skin types and ages, but it is more visible with brown or black skin and up to the age of 30. The limited information and methods of its treatment make this disease stressful. That’s why we talked to Dr. Sharad Kulkarni, an expert in Ayurveda, a thousand-year-old medical system of India, and learned whether Ayurvedic treatment for vitiligo is possible? The best treatment for vitiligo is in ayurveda
Working in the field of Ayurveda for the past decade, Dr. Sharad Kulkarni MS (Ayu),(Ph.D.) of Jeevottama Ayurveda Center, Bangalore explains that Ayurvedic treatment for white spots is the best. Apart from being better than other existing options, it is also more reliable and economical.
White spots on the body start due to tridosha
Ayurveda experts state that vitiligo is caused due to tridosha (imbalance of vata, pitta, kapha). Apart from this, mental stress and genetic factors are also helpful in this disease. It is an autoimmune disease in which our immune system starts destroying the good cells of the body. There are two types of conditions in vitiligo, first when white spots are only on one part of the body. The second situation is when these white spots spread over the whole body over time.
How is vitiligo treated in ayurveda?
Experts say that Panchakarma, a technique that detoxifies the body, is used to treat patients of vitiligo. In which the body is detoxified with the help of Vamana, Virechana and Raktamokshan. If the patient has been suffering from vitiligo for a long time, then this process is also repeated.
If white is present in any one part of the body- In this condition, leech therapy is given to the patient after vomiting and virechana. It is mostly used in Ayurveda. Toxic blood plays a major role in this disease. Therefore it is taken out of the body with the help of a leech.
If the white spot is spread all over the body- In this situation the patient is given Shiraveda therapy. In this, dirty or toxic blood is taken out from the veins of the body by needle or needle.
Therapy is done on the basis of patient’s consent
Doctor Sharad explains that for the therapy involved in Panchakarma, his consent is taken from the patient. Also, there are some guidelines for doing these therapy, which is done only after following it. For example, it cannot be used on all patients. For this it is very important to be physically fit. In its place, Shiraveda, Leech therapy or Lepan is done. Although it is believed that doing vamana and virechana gives better results than other therapies. But it is strictly forbidden in patients of weak or older age and younger age.
Bakuchi is a medicine for vitiligo
Doctors tell that Bakuchi is a type of medicine mainly used in vitiligo. It is used in coating therapy. Its paste is prepared and applied on the part of the body affected by vitiligo, or its decoction is prepared and given to the patient. This whole process happens with Panchakarma.
what kind of diet should be followed
Doctors tell that after the therapy of vitiligo lasting 3-4 months, patients have to take great care of their diet. In the diet, there is a strict prohibition of consuming such food i.e. the combination of food which is harmful for the body. The main among them are milk + curd, milk + banana, fish + milk etc.
