In fact, in Jammu and Kashmir, now students from outside states will also be able to study medicine. After the removal of Article 370, now a new era is going to start in Jammu and Kashmir. Now students from all over the country will be able to enroll in medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir and become doctors by doing MBBS, MD, DNB courses. Local doctors are not only happy with this decision of the government, but those youths who are studying doctor are very excited.
Students from outside states are now taking admission in Jammu and Kashmir’s Government Medical College Jammu and other colleges. For the first time, admissions for MBBS, PG, and DNB have started in the colleges here. Students will study in 150 seats MBBS, 44 seats for DNB and 200 seats for PG. Retired doctor OP Sharma said that this step of the government is very commendable. With this, our students will get to learn a lot, as well as we will get an opportunity to know the culture of each other state. Dr Sharma said that after the removal of Article 370, the Modi government has given a separate identity to Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking about development, after so many decades, most of the areas have been connected by road and many projects which were pending for years are now being completed. Due to Article 370, earlier, 15 percent seats in MBBS and 50 percent seats in PG were not given in All India quota in Medical Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. Because of this neither the students of other states could study in the medical colleges here. Even after the removal of Article 370, there was opposition to the inclusion of seats in the All India quota, but this time the Jammu and Kashmir government has given the green signal to include the seats.
Now this will be the first time that students from outside states will get a chance to study medicine in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the data, out of 180 MBBS seats in Jammu Medical College, 27 students from outside states will study. Out of 198 seats of PG, students from outside states will study in 99 seats. The situation will be the same in Srinagar Medical College as well. Other medical colleges which include Kathua Medical College, Rajouri Medical College, Doda, Baramulla and Anantnag Medical College will have 15-15 students from outside states.
