Deserted theaters are buzzing after a long time
For the last about six months, due to the huge flops at the box office, the cinema halls which were deserted are seen buzzing after a long time. Due to ‘Drishyam 2’ which has earned more than 150 crores and ‘Bhediya’ which has earned about 30 crores on the first weekend, theaters are again looking bright. Of course, people from the film industry to the cinema are very happy because of the good earnings at the box office for a long time. Where Drishyam 2 alone collected around 65 crores on the first weekend. On the other hand, on the second weekend, ‘Drishyam 2’ and ‘Bhediya’ together earned around 68 crores. In this way, the people of the cinema industry are looking very excited due to the good earnings at the box office for two consecutive weeks in November. The experts of the film world also say that the film industry has come out of its worst days. Talking about this, producer and film business analyst Girish Johar says, ‘The collection of Drishyam 2 and Bhediya over the last weekend was more than 60 crores, which is a very good sign for the film industry. Raunak is back in cinema halls but we still have a long way to go. Nevertheless, it has given rise to a ray of hope in the industry.
‘If the content will be strong, then the audience will come’
Undoubtedly, the crowd of spectators who returned to the theaters after a long time has brought a smile on the faces of the cinema owners as well. But they do not deny that the audience has become much wiser now. If the content is good, then the audience will come to the cinema, otherwise they will reject the film of a big star. In this regard, Yogesh Raizada, Vice President of Wave Cinemas said, ‘After many months, the brightness has returned from the box office to the theatres. Of course, the audience is again liking the content of the films, so they are coming to the theaters to watch it. However, it has to be seen whether films will be able to maintain this trend in the coming days. On the other hand, the experts of the film world are telling the good earnings at the box office without any festival release date as a good sign. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, ‘The box office has made a strong comeback over the last weekend. The weekend collection of both Drishyam 2 and Bhediya stood at 68 crores. The special thing is that this collection is without any holiday. It is expected that in the coming days, the business will grow further with Avatar and Circus. And in January, all eyes will be on Pathan.
Movies coming directly on OTT
After the third wave of Corona, the release of films in open theaters has not been very encouraging. Barring Hindi cinema’s Gangubai, The Kashmir Files, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Brahmastra, the films released on Eid, Independence Day, Dussehra and Diwali by all the big stars have fallen flat. This is the reason why all the producers postponed the release of many of their films. These include films ranging from Tiger Shroff’s Ganpat to Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. At the same time, despite the cinema being open, this month all the films are being released directly on OTT. These include Karthik Aryan’s Freddy releasing today and Madhur Bhandarkar’s India Lockdown releasing next week Taapsee Pannu’s Blur. While Vicky Kaushal’s Govinda Naam Mera will release directly on OTT on December 16. While this film was supposed to hit the theaters first. Industry experts say that in the last few years, due to films not doing well at the box office, many films have been postponed and are being released directly on OTT. But now after the success of Drishyam 2, the box office is expected to bounce back.
