New Delhi. Before Diwali, the government can give another gift to crores of small businessmen of the country. Under this, the last date for filing GST returns for September can be extended, so that the businessmen engaged in preparing for the festivals do not have to face trouble. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said in a statement issued late on Thursday that traders may be given more time to file GST returns for September.
According to the CBIC, several taxpayers had complained about the slowness of the GSTN portal and also proposed to extend the date of filing returns. At present, this proposal is being reviewed and after that approval will be given to extend the last date. Form GSTR 3B for every month is filed on 20th, 22nd or 24th of the following month. This deadline varies from state to state. In October also, the GST return for September was to be filed on these dates, but now the deadline can be extended.

The CBIC said that Thursday was the last date for filing GST returns for certain categories of businessmen, but many taxpayers complained about the slow running of the portal due to which they could not file the monthly GST return Form GSTR 3B.
GSTN has sought time
CBIC tweeted that they have received a complaint from the GST Network (GSTN) along with a proposal. It has been said that due to the slow running of the GST portal, there is a problem in filing monthly returns, hence its deadline should be extended. We are keeping an eye on this issue and are also looking into the proposals. Discussions will be held with the GST Council to take a final decision on extending the deadline. Therefore, there will be no burden of late fee or interest on the taxpayers.
GSTN, the organization that provides technology services to GST, says that the matter is being discussed with the service provider company Infosys. We are working on a solution to this problem. GSTN tweeted and said that many taxpayers had spoken about the difficulty in filling the GSTR 3B form on Thursday. Our technical team is working on resolving this issue. The report of the case has been sent to CBIC, along with a proposal to extend the deadline for filing returns.

Deadline may extend by two days
AMRG & Associates Senior Partner Rajat Mohan says that due to technical glitches on the portal of GSTN, lakhs of traders have faced difficulty in filing returns. To avoid this kind of problem in the festive season, the deadline should be extended slightly. The GST Council may give a day or two more time to file the return.
