Not Ameesha Patel but Kajol was the first choice for ‘Gadar’, know why she turned down the offer, director revealed

Mumbai: The second part of the memorable film ‘Gadar’ of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s film career is going to be released soon. When the film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ (Part 1) directed by Anil Sharma was released in the year 2001, it rocked the box office. Along with Sarhad Paar Ishq and Romance, the success of the action film can be gauged from the fact that Sunny’s powerful dialogues are repeated on the screen even today. Sakina’s innocence and Tara’s courage made the film a hit. You will be surprised to hear that the big actresses of that era were not ready to work in the film which raised the flag of success. This was revealed by the film director himself.

Anil Sharma has made many films like this, but he is known because of ‘Gadar’. Talking to the media, Anil had said that he did not want to name anyone but many Bollywood actresses had rejected the film on one pretext or the other. Some thought it was an old-fashioned film, while some did not consider Sunny Deol to be of their standard.

On asking Kajol’s name, Anil Sharma told Bollywood Bubble that ‘I don’t want to name anyone, it is not right. Media is free to name anyone, but we contacted many top actresses of that time. For some, we were not up to their standards, they felt Sunny Deol was not up to their standards, they felt we were not trendy and many did not even listen to the script. Some actresses who heard our story felt that it is a period drama film and it is not right to be involved in it. This film will not work at the box office, so everyone rejected the film. Maybe it’s not their fault. An actor who turned down the role of Sakina, is now a friend and regrets not doing the film.

Waiting for ‘Gadar’ Part-2
