PM Modi congratulated Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on his birthday, thanked him by posting a childhood picture

Chandigarh. Today is the birthday of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he has turned 49 on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished him a happy birthday. PM Modi has said in a tweet that Happy Birthday to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, may he be blessed with a long and healthy life. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet, Bhagwant Mann posted a childhood picture with his parents. In it, he wrote, “Thank you for the birthday wishes.. Whenever I am in this world, my country is Punjab.”

Let us tell you that CM Bhagwant Mann was born on 17 October 1973. He has become the 17th CM of Punjab at the age of 48. Before joining politics, he was a comedian. Before becoming CM, he was elected MP twice from Sangrur parliamentary constituency. He is now the first non-Congress and non-Akali leader to become the Chief Minister after the reorganization of Punjab in 1966. He contested from Dhuri, the assembly constituency of his Sangrur parliamentary constituency, in which he won by a margin of over 58,000.

Born in October 1973 in Satoj village of Sangrur, Mann enrolled for a B.Com degree from Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Sunam in the same district. He did not complete the course, but the college gave him the opportunity to participate in several youth festivals. He later brought out comedy videos and music albums including the very popular ‘Jugnu Mast Mast’ and ‘Kulfi Garam Garam’. Appearing in ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ was a major achievement in his career as an entertainer.

Mann’s political career began in 2011 with the People’s Party of Punjab led by Manpreet Singh Badal. Which was later merged with Congress. In 2012, Mann contested from Lehra assembly constituency in Sangrur as a People’s Party of Punjab candidate, but lost to senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.

In 2014, Mann joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and contested for the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat against Akali heavyweight Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. He won by over two lakh votes and AAP won four Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. He resigned from the post in 2018 after Kejriwal apologized to Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a defamation case, but soon returned to the AAP. Mann had again won the Sangrur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of over one lakh votes.
