Chandigarh. Former Punjab Congress President Navjot Sidhu, who is serving a one-year sentence in the road rage case, on Monday began a nine-day ‘silent fast’ in Patiala Central Jail as part of his fast during the Navratras. Former cricketer’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu has given information by tweeting. He tweeted and wrote that Sidhu will not meet anyone for the next nine days and will keep silence. Navjot Kaur Sidhu tweeted from her husband’s Twitter handle, writing, “My husband will remain silent during Navratri and will meet visitors after 5th October.” According to jail officials, Sidhu took his diet as per the doctor’s advice, but he remained silent. He is not talking to anyone. Are communicated through written or sign language.
According to the Hindustan Times report, a jail official said that during the fast of silence, he is calm and performing his rituals. He told us that he used to fast every Navratri and also keep silence for a few days every year. This is normal for them, but we are seeing this fast for the first time. Sidhu himself has said many times that he has a firm belief in Goddess Durga and even frequently visits the Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Katra, Jammu. However, his detractors say that Sidhu opted for silence as a Ludhiana court had summoned him to record his statement in the court. In which an important file related to the allegations against former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu is missing during his tenure as minister.
RTI activist Kuldeep Khaira said he was trying to avoid his hearing as he had to face questions on the missing file. Sidhu surrendered before a local court on May 20 after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment.
