Mumbai. Director Apoorva Lakhia, who made films like ‘Haseena Parkar’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and ‘Dus Kahaniyan’, told a memorable anecdote related to Abhishek Bachchan. He told that one day he went to Abhishek to tell him the story of one of his films. Later he got so angry that Abhishek snatched the script and came out of his house ‘Jalsa’. This story is before the shooting of the film ‘Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost’ in the year 2003. This film played the lead role.

Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia told in an interview to Siddharth Kannan that Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost was his first film as a director. Earlier, he had worked as an assistant director in Lagaan. He told that Abhishek Bachchan had earlier refused to work in his film. Due to which he got upset.

Apoorva Lakhia said that Abhishek Bachchan initially showed no interest in the offer of ‘Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost’ and took 6 months to respond to it. Even after taking so much time, he refused to work in the film. He said, “He called me home and told me, ‘This film should be made. This is a wonderful script. It should be made 100 per cent, but not with me.”

Apoorva Lakhia said, “I was shocked. I thought why is he saying this. Apoorva got very angry on this response of Abhishek Bachchan. He said, “I got angry. I asked him back for the script and came from there. I was new in the industry, so I did not know whether you can get angry on an actor or not. Then I got a call from Abhishek. He asked me – are you angry?

Apoorva Lakhia said, “Yes, you are the son of Amitabh Bachchan and what are you worried about. I am waiting since 6 months. I am commuting by auto. After this, Abhishek called me to meet him. I thought he would get angry, but he didn’t. He asked for the script and asked when to start the shooting. And that’s how he worked in the film.”
