Now more number of students will be able to study engineering, know what is the preparation of AICTE

AICTE Planning To Remove Cap On Engineering Seats: AICTE is planning to make some major changes regarding admission in engineering colleges. Under this, the rule of taking admission on a limited number of engineering seats in colleges can be withdrawn. Actually, currently there is a rule that colleges can give admission to candidates on maximum number of seats. It depends on many things like capacity of the college, infrastructure, teachers etc. Based on all this, there is a limited number of admissions that take place in a college every year.

What is AICTE’s proposal?

In this regard, the All India Council for Technical Education has proposed that this ban on engineering colleges be removed from the year 2024-25. At present there are only a limited number of admissions which should be increased to some extent. According to TOI report, currently this limit in Chennai is 240 seats per branch. Any college can take maximum number of admissions in any branch. This upper limit is being considered in view of the mismatch of demand and supply.

Approval will be given on this basis

AICTE also says that this approval will not be given just like that, but after investigation on many parameters and everything turns out to be correct, permission will be given to increase engineering seats. Like availability of infrastructure, number of faculty etc. The most important thing is that the facility to increase seats will be available only if the institute is offering at least three courses in core branches.

What does AICTE say?

The council says that according to the NEP that came in the year 2020 and considering the gross enrollment ratio, removal of the upper limit is being considered. This has been proposed in the handbook for the year 2024-25.

What is the opinion of the colleges?

According to media reports, there have been mixed reactions from colleges in this regard. For example, top engineering colleges are happy with this proposal as it will give them an opportunity to expand their campus. Whereas mid level colleges say that this will have an adverse effect on their admissions.
