Actually, IIT Kanpur will now give admission to students under a new scheme. Under this scheme, admission will be given under Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Biology Olympiad. It has been told by the institute that admission in B.Tech and BS programs will be done on the basis of Olympiad score.
At present it is being implemented only in 5 departments of IIT Kanpur. Which include Biological Sciences and Bio Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Economics and Mathematics and Statistics Department.
According to media reports, if a student has Olympiad rank in more than one subject, then priority will be given to the subject with higher rank. If someone has the same rank in Biology and Maths channel, then his Maths rank will be considered. Whereas, candidates with bio in Biology, Physics and Chemistry channel will get preference.

Admission into Computer Science and other departments
Scores of Maths and Informatics Olympiad will be the basis for admission in Computer Science department. At the same time, admission in the Chemistry Department will be available only on the marks of Chemistry Olympiad. Also, Maths Olympiad rank in departments like Economics, Maths and Statistics will be made the basis.

Shortlisting and Examination Process
Students will be shortlisted on the basis of Olympiad rank list. Shortlisted students will have to appear in a written examination, which will be separate from the JEE exam, but will be considered mandatory. If the department feels that they need to take an interview then that will also be done.
