Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was established on March 10, 1969. Its main objective is to provide security to important industrial establishments, nuclear plants, airports and other important places of the country. This force provides security to Delhi Metro, ports, historical monuments and important government buildings. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also comes under CAPF. Initially, CISF had a total of 2800 personnel, which was later increased. Today the number of this force is in lakhs.
There are 7 forces under CAPF. BSF, ITBP, Assam Rifles and SSB protect the country’s borders. Apart from this, CAPF includes NSG, CISF and CRPF. All these forces come under the Home Ministry.
Initially, only men were recruited and deployed in CISF. But in the year 1992, Asha Sinha achieved a significant milestone when she was posted as Commandant in Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. This made her the first woman Commandant of the Central Armed Police Forces in India. Earlier, the role of women was limited in the Central Armed Police Forces and they were allowed to play only supervisory roles. But the appointment of Asha Sinha broke this limit and opened the way for women to higher posts.

The highest officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is the Director General. Additional Directors assist the Director General and look after specific areas. After them comes the Inspector General.
