Actor-cricketer Salil Ankola’s life and career have been such that a film and web series can be made on it. He started as a fast bowler for Maharashtra and then made it to the Indian national team and also represented the country in the ICC World Cup. However, a career-ending injury forced him to change his path. Leaving the world of cricket, Salil Ankola entered the film world. He got success in this field too and along with films, he got a lot of work on TV as well, but the ups and downs of life did not reduce.

After entering the film world, the actor got a new direction and he moved forward in a different field with a different style. He would have hardly imagined that life was going to show him a lot more. Ankola, a tall and promising fast bowler, made his first-class debut for Maharashtra in 1988, taking 27 wickets in his first season. His impressive performance caught the attention of the national selectors and he was soon included in the Indian team, where he made his debut against Pakistan along with Sachin Tendulkar. This was also Sachin’s debut match.

He made his ODI debut just a month later. Though his Test career was short, he remained in the ODI team for the next eight years, even participating in the 1996 World Cup. During his career, Ankola took 13 wickets in 20 ODIs and 2 wickets in his only Test match. By 1997, he was out of the national team and retired from cricket at the age of 28. It was then that his career took a new turn and it took him to a different world. Ankola restarted everything from scratch.

Ankola entered the acting world in 2000, making his film debut in a supporting role in Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Kurukshetra’. He later appeared in ‘Pita’ and played a villain in Zayed Khan’s first film. Then in 2003, he played the villain in ‘Tumne’. The actor also participated in the first season of Bigg Boss. After this, he started getting offers in the TV industry as well. Soon, his focus shifted completely from films to TV. He became a part of many hit TV shows and this time the roles he was offered were better than films. With ‘Sssshhh…Koi Hai’ and ‘Kora Kaagaz’, he started getting recognition as a good actor.

In the year 2008, once again a big speed breaker came in Salil Ankola’s life, which shocked him a lot. With the end of acting opportunities, the actor started struggling with financial crisis. His addiction to alcohol not only affected his health, but also broke his home. His 19-year-old marriage broke down in a jiffy. He stayed in rehab for a long time and then he returned to the world of acting again. In the year 2013, Salil Ankola made a comeback with the TV show ‘Savitri’. Then in 2015, he appeared in an important role in ‘Karmaphal Data Shani’. In the same year, he appeared in the Tamil film ‘Pambattam’ and apart from this, he was also seen playing an important role in CID. Now Salil is constantly seen adapting to new characters. He has also been seen in different roles in the world of cricket in the past years. Now he is spending good days with his second wife and daughter.
