Farhan Akhtar made his debut as a director with ‘Dil Chahta Hai’
Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut with ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ released in 2001. In this film, the trio of Aamir Khan, Akshay Khanna and Saif Ali Khan made such a mark that the box office was flooded with money in no time. Aamir Khan played the lead role in this film, although it is a different matter that Akshay Khanna was supposed to play this character earlier. Farhan Akhtar recently revealed this and told that Aamir played the role of a jolly natured ‘Akash Malhotra’ in the film, which was earlier given to Akshay Khanna. Farhan revealed that when Aamir signed the film, he asked to play the character of Akash.
What did Aamir Khan say to Farhan?
Aamir told Farhan Akhtar that he had played many serious roles before, so he wanted to play something different this time. But, Akshay Khanna had already signed this role, but for the benefit of the film, Akshay Khanna ‘politely’ left this role. Farhan Akhtar revealed this while talking to Faye D’Souza.
Earlier Farhan wanted to cast Hrithik-Abhishek in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’
Farhan says- ‘I have experienced true grace from Akshay Khanna. When I met him for Dil Chahta Hai, I offered him the role of Akash, which was later done by Aamir. When I approached Akshay at that time, I wanted to cast two more young actors. First I approached Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan for these two roles. Who were just one film old in those days. But they had other projects and it could not happen. So I had to choose actors of a slightly older generation for Dil Chahta Hai.’
Aamir chose Akshay Khanna’s role
Farhan further says- ‘After knocking at every door, I narrated the script to Aamir Khan, then he told me that since he has played serious roles in the last few films, he wants to play the role of Akash in this film. Akshay calmly told me that he liked the film and knew that it had to be made. He said, ‘I will play the character of Siddharth. Such actors are rare who leave the roles so beautifully.’
Farhan wanted to cast Hrithik Roshan in Don
Not only this, Farhan Akhtar also revealed that before Shahrukh Khan, he had offered Don to Hrithik Roshan. Farhan Akhtar started working on the script of Don after the release of Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Lakshya’. He told Hrithik that he wanted to cast him in this film and would give the script soon. But, when he started writing the script, Shahrukh Khan’s name started coming to his mind for Don, after which Hrithik also very calmly accepted his offer and gave this role to another actor just like Akshay Khanna.
