In the video, Gufi talked about the days of the late 1960s, when he was studying engineering in Jamshedpur and lived in the same hostel with Ratan Tata. He said, ‘At that time Ratan Tata had just returned from his training in America and was a few years older than me. He lived in room number 21 and was a very gentleman. Despite coming from such a respected family, he now heads the Tata Group of Companies and I feel proud as an Indian and a friend.
used to go on picnics together
In this video, Gufi has remembered those small moments which made their friendship special. He told, ‘He used to take us on picnics in his car and we had a deep friendship. I was the only student whom he called to his room for discussion. He owned a beautiful silver convertible Plymouth in the early 1960s and it was remarkable to see a high-fidelity radio in a car at that time. We used to listen to English and Hindi songs and sometimes also listen to Binaka Geetmala.
When we had a short meeting in Mumbai
Let us tell you, late actor Gufi Paintal passed away in 2023. He also recalled his brief meeting with late industrialist Ratan Tata in Mumbai. He had said in the video, ‘I remember one day when I was waiting to cross the linking road in Bandra. A big car stopped and I saw two big dogs in the back. It was Ratan Tata who was returning home. He stopped and asked if I could leave you, but I said no, Ratan, thank you very much. I am crossing the road; My car is on the other side. It was a brief meeting, but it left a lasting impression on me.
