Pankaj Tripathi, who has made a name for himself with his solid roles in films, is counted in the list of brilliant actors of the country. Be it a small or big role, Pankaj Tripathi plays it with so much enthusiasm that the audience starts calling him by the name of the same character. Exactly the same thing happened after the release of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. The name of ‘Sultan Qureshi’ had become popular on people’s lips. Shortly after this, the ‘Mirzapur’ web series came and Pankaj Tripathi became ‘Kaalin Bhaiya’ for the audience. Pankaj Tripathi, who single-handedly handled films like ‘Kadak Singh’ and ‘Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga’, is now going to be seen in ‘Main Atal Hoon’. To talk about this film, Pankaj Tripathi was now seen facing the questions of India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma in the dock of the popular show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’. During this, he shared the story of seeing Atal Bihari Vayapayee very closely.

I was afraid to do this role

During the question period, India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma asked, ‘Atal ji was the hero of the country. So to become a hero, a lot of preparation must have been required for this? In response to this, Pankaj Tripathi said, ‘Yes of course. At first I had to be scared. Had to be very scared. On this, Rajat Sharma asked whether Pankaj ever met Atal Bihari Vajpayee? In response to this, Pankaj Tripathi shared the story of seeing the former Prime Minister of the country at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. He told that he was very close to him.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was only 300-400 meters away.

Pankaj said, ‘It is a very interesting story. You all also listen. Let me tell you… it happened 26-27 years ago. There was a rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. He was my favorite leader. He was a dear speaker so I went to that rally. Made up my mind that I will go to listen to him. Reached there by bicycle. I tied my bicycle to the rail on the railing in the field with the help of a chain, locked it and kept the key in my pocket. I entered that crowd of innumerable lakhs and I wanted to see Atal ji closely, so I struggled and moved ahead. I was 300-400 meters away from them when I got tired of struggling. There was a lot of public in front of it…there was a lot of crowd, I could not go ahead. I was watching Atal ji on the stage from 400 meters away in that political rally of 95-96. That view was exactly like the view of a wide angle lens in cinema.

The shooting reminded me of that rally.

Pankaj further says, ‘There was a wide frame where some, the entire stage was visible. Atal ji was giving a speech on the stage, he had already arrived and Shatrughan Sinha ji was standing behind, so I kept looking at it in a wide angle and due to the crowd, I was not able to go ahead of him. Whenever this film was being shot, Ravi ji, Ravi Jadhav, who is my director, used to call me Atal ji on the set. So Ravi Jadhav used to tell DOP i.e. cinematographer Lawrence to close Atal ji. Atal ji’s extreme close. Hearing this, only that wide angle was visible in my mind, when I saw it from a distance, its meaning is that what is extremely wide in life can also become extremely close if you continue on your path.
