Govinda with wife Sunita
Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja is in the news these days. She recently spoke openly about her love story with Govinda and the journey from marriage to marriage in a podcast. Sunita Munjal recently spoke openly about the early days of her relationship. Sunita is also the sister of Govinda’s maternal uncle Anand Singh’s wife. Sunita told that when she met Govinda for the first time, she was in school and Govinda was in college. Govinda made his acting debut with his director uncle Anand Singh’s film Tan-Badan (1986).
How did Govinda and Sunita Ahuja meet for the first time?
During a recent conversation on the Time Out with Ankit podcast, Sunita revealed how she first met Govinda. She says, “My sister married Govinda’s maternal uncle. I first saw Govinda when they were married. He was in the final year of B.Com and was in Class 9. My brother-in-law (Anand Singh) told me that Govinda was from Virar, a simple man who loved his mother very much. He also told me that no girl could impress him.”
When Anand Singh challenged Sunita to impress Govinda
Sunita further says – ‘I remember thinking what kind of a boy is this that no girl can impress him. When I told my brother-in-law that I can do it, he said that it is not possible. So, I asked him what if I do it..? So he challenged me to prove it.’
Govinda and Sunita have been together for 40 years
Sunita further said that around this time she started working on her body. Initially Anand Singh had approached her for the role of the female lead opposite Govinda, which she refused to do due to workload and later Khushboo Sundar was seen in this role. Sunita further recalls a memorable moment and says- “On the day of the muhurat, Govinda, my brother and I were in the car together. My brother was sitting in the middle and when I put my hand on the headrest, I saw Govinda’s hand there too. I realized that he was touching my hand lovingly. The first thought that came to my mind was to immediately hold his hand and thus our affair began.’ Govinda and Sunita dated each other for three years before getting married and now the couple has been together for 37 years.
