ALERT: Every third child in the country is addicted to social media

Social Media And Kids: In today’s time, social media has reached every mobile. Being active on social media is not bad, but it is a matter of concern that in the new era, children are using it excessively. A recent Lancet study states that every third child in the country has become addicted to social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook or X. In such a situation, children’s childhood and education are not only being adversely affected, but their mind is also being affected by it.

What does the Lancet study say?

The Lancet study says that one in two parents in the urban population complain that their children have become addicted to social media, OTT and mobile gaming. This is having a negative impact on their behavior and they are gradually becoming aggressive. Due to addiction to social media, children are not only becoming violent but they are also lacking patience.

Social media is clearly having a negative impact on the lifestyle of children and their development and childhood is being affected by it. Lancet has conducted a survey in this regard at the local level, in which 47 percent of the parents of the urban population have said that their children are spending more than three hours every day on social media, OTT, reels videos etc.

Parents demand strict laws regarding social media

Lassant said that in the survey, 66 percent of the parents said that strict laws should be made in the country regarding social media and mobile gaming for children below 18 years of age. He believes that mobile phones of small children should be brought under parenting control under the Data Protection Act. The government should make rules for this. Ten percent of parents said in this survey that their children watch mobile phones for more than six hours.
