National Cashew Day is celebrated every year on 23 November in the country and the world. The custom of celebrating this day on a special day has started from America. This is why when Europeans discovered cashew in 1558, they thought it was not fit for eating.

The Tupi Indians, a local Portuguese tribe, discovered cashew nuts. The Portuguese are fond of walnuts, so when they came to India, they brought cashew nuts. After which cashew has been grown in India. Cashews spread rapidly to Southeast Asia and Africa and became an essential part of their diet and trade. Cashews did not reach the United States until 1905. Initially slow to spread, it became popular in the mid-1920s when the General Foods Corporation began regularly shipping cashews to the United States and Europe. Once Americans got a taste for it, demand for cashews soared. Till 1941, about 22,046.23 tonnes were imported annually from India.
