As you know, most of the people like to sleep on their side, and for this they use a pillow of appropriate height to fill the gap between the mattress and support the head. Dr RH Chauhan, orthopedic surgeon at Bhatia Hospital, Mumbai, explains that not using the right pillow can lead to the head becoming unsupported or drooping, potentially leading to neck pain, dizziness and even upper back pain. There may be pain and numbness in the limbs.

Even if you sleep on your back. It is important to use a pillow to maintain the natural shape of the cervical spine. However, using extra thick pillows can cause discomfort, neck pain and even numbness and weakness in the upper limbs. These effects are mainly caused by the abnormal position of the cervical spine. Which can cause problems in the comfort of your body.

Do not keep a bad size pillow

According to experts, apart from providing poor neck and spine support, a poorly fitting pillow can also accumulate dust particles, allergens or even mold which can trigger allergies, asthma or respiratory problems. Due to which the disease may occur again and again. Dr. Chauhan emphasizes that choosing the right pillow to suit your sleeping position is important for a good night’s sleep and to prevent potential health problems, such as dizziness and the risk of falls and related injuries.

How to choose the right pillow?

Choose a pillow that conforms to the natural contours of your body and provides proper support to your neck and spine. Memory foam, latex and feather pillows are popular choices that cater to a variety of preferences. Before buying, check the pillow properly to see how comfortable it is. To avoid health issues, wash the pillowcase every 1-2 weeks and the pillowcase every 3-6 months, depending on usage.
