Mumbai: Maharashtra Police has arrested 25 Popular Front of India (PFI) activists after raids in several districts of the state. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters that the action on PFI is in accordance with the laws and evidence based on investigation into their activities. Fadnavis, who is also in charge of the state’s home department, said, “Efforts are being made to create division in the society and weaken the country. This is being done in a sequential manner.
According to the police, 14 people have been arrested from Aurangabad, four from Thane, two each from Nanded, Parbhani and Malegaon and one from Amravati. Thane Deputy Commissioner of Police Laxmikant Patil said four PFI activists were arrested on Monday night as part of a joint operation conducted in the district by the local police and crime branch officials.

He said that two activists have been apprehended from Mumbra and one each from Kalyan and Bhiwandi. A senior Aurangabad official said that they have arrested 14 members of the PFI. Nashik Superintendent of Police Rural Sachin Patil said, “We have arrested two people from Malegaon.” Nanded Superintendent of Police Nisar Tamboli said that they have arrested two people.
Along with this, the Pune Police has detained six people associated with the PFI and its political wing Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). An official gave this information on Tuesday. Senior Police Inspector Sardar Patil of Kondhwa police station said that the move under section 151(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure comes in the backdrop of recent crackdown on PFI by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). has been raised.
More than 150 people allegedly linked to the PFI were detained or arrested during raids in seven states on Tuesday. Five days ago, there was a nationwide search operation against this organization accused of being associated with radical Islam. The raids in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam and Madhya Pradesh were mainly carried out by the state police teams. NAIA is probing 19 cases related to PFI. Earlier, on September 22, 106 PFI activists were arrested in 15 states by conducting similar raids as part of a campaign by various agencies led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of supporting terrorist activities in the country.
