5 killed, 10 injured in blast at Tamil Nadu’s firecracker unit – Fast Hindi News

Madurai: Five people were killed and over 10 injured in a major explosion at a private cracker unit at Alagusirai village near Thirumangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district on Thursday.

While writing this report, the police have confirmed the deaths of 5 workers, while the actual number of people working at the time of the blast is not yet known.

Reports suggest that more than 15 people in the unit were engaged in manufacturing of firecrackers. The cause of the explosion is unknown.

Police and fire service and rescue personnel reached the spot and shifted the injured to Thirumangalam Government Hospital, from where they were later referred to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH).

The New Indian Express reported that based on the alert, officials from the district administration, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Service and police departments rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister P Murthy and Collector Dr S Anish Shekhar visited the spot and inspected.

Chief Minister MK Stalin condoled the deaths and announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims and directed that those who were injured be given special treatment at the Government Rajaji Medical College Hospital.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi expressed deep grief over the accident and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
