PM Modi Announcement for Arunachal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (November 19) made a big announcement for the state after inaugurating the first greenfield airport Donyi Polo Airport of Arunachal Pradesh.
PM Modi said that in the near future, the Center will spend another Rs 50,000 crore for the development of infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. He stressed the need to maintain proper connectivity to remote areas of the state and said that 85 percent villages of Arunachal Pradesh are connected by Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. PM Modi said that the development of the new airport will create a huge opportunity in the field of cargo service. He said that as a result, the farmers of the state can now sell their produce in big markets.
The airport was completed in four and a half years
It is noteworthy that Doni Polo Airport is about 15 kilometers away from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Commercial flights to other cities can be filled from this airport located in Hollongi. Apart from this, helicopter service from here will connect Arunachal Pradesh to other parts of the state. In February 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Doni Polo Airport.
Addressing a gathering at the airport, PM Modi said that the farmers of the state are taking advantage of the PM Kisan Nidhi. “We are working in a mission mode to take development to every household and village in the state,” the Prime Minister said, highlighting the government’s efforts to develop all border villages under the “Vibrant Border Village Programme”. underlined. He said that this will boost tourism in the region and also reduce migration.
Kameng Hydroelectric Project dedicated to the nation
Prime Minister Modi also dedicated to the nation the 600 MW ‘Kameng Hydroelectric Project’ in West Kameng district of the state. The Kameng Hydroelectric Project has been developed at a cost of more than Rs 8,450 crore in an area of more than 80 square kilometers. This is expected to make Arunachal Pradesh a power surplus state and benefit the national grid in terms of stability and integration.
PM Modi said, “Connectivity and energy infrastructure will bring a new dawn of development for the northeastern region.” The Prime Minister said that his government works 365 days, seven days and 24 hours for the development of the country. He said, “I inaugurate those projects, the foundation stone of which has been laid by me. Gone are the days of casual attitude.
So many airports built in the Northeast in eight years
PM Modi said, “Political commentators had claimed (in 2019) that laying the foundation stone of the airport was an election gimmick. However, today when no election is to be held, we are starting this airport. He said that seven airports have been built in the Northeast in the last eight years. PM Modi said, “Policy makers earlier only wanted to win elections whereas we only work for the development of the nation.”
According to officials, Doni Polo Airport will cater to the needs of about 20 lakh people. This is expected to boost connectivity, trade and tourism. PM Modi also released a coffee-table book on Central Government’s regional connectivity scheme ‘Udaan’. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Arunachal Governor Brigadier (Retd) Dr BD Mishra were also present on the occasion.
CM Pema Khandu explained the meaning of Doni Pola
CM Khandu informed through his address that Sun is called Doni and Moon is called Polo, hence the naming of the airport shows the reverence of the people of Arunachal Pradesh towards Sun and Moon. According to officials, the airport has been developed by the Airports Authority of India at an estimated cost of Rs 645 crore and has eight check-in counters that can serve 200 passengers during peak hours.
Earlier there was no airport in Arunachal Pradesh. The nearest airport is Lilabari Airport in North Lakhimpur district of Assam, 80 km away. According to Arunachal CM Khandu, some advanced landing grounds including Pasighat and Tezu were built after 2014.
