Union Home Minister Amit Shah has taken a big step towards ensuring cyber security in the country and announced several new steps. The Union Home Ministry has announced to train 5,000 ‘cyber commandos’ to crack down on cyber thugs, set up a web-based data registry and create a national portal to share cyber crime information. Home Minister Shah has also talked about creating a national register of suspects to prevent cyber crimes in future.
He said cyber crime “sees no boundaries” and hence national security is impossible without cyber security. Addressing the first foundation day celebrations of the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, Shah said technology is a blessing for human life but the increasing use of technology is also creating many threats, hence cyber security is no longer limited to the digital world but has also become an important aspect of national security.
Therefore, development of any country is impossible without cyber security, he said. Shah also announced the formation of a Cyber ​​Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) at the event with representatives from various banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom service providers, IT intermediaries and law enforcement agencies of states and union territories.
The Home Minister said that all these agencies will work together to tackle online financial crimes with immediate action and without any hindrance. The Minister said that he hoped that through CFMC, the law enforcement agencies will set an example of cooperative federalism. The Union Home Minister said that the formation of seven joint cyber coordination teams in Mewat, Jamtara, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Visakhapatnam and Guwahati has yielded good results and I4C has launched effective awareness campaign on various social media handles under CyberDost initiative.
He said, “To achieve our goal, we have to make a precise strategy and move forward together in the same direction.” Shah said that platforms like I4C can make a huge contribution in dealing with such threats. He called for continuing awareness, coordination and joint efforts with all stakeholders. The Home Minister said that no single institution can keep the cyber space safe alone.
