After Kharge, who will become the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha? These 2 names ahead in the race

New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge filed his nomination for the post of Congress President on Friday. Kharge is set to become the party’s president. In the midst of the election of the new president, there is also a discussion about who will replace Kharge as the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Former finance ministers P Chidambaram and Digvijay Singh are both in the race to replace him as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. At present, Digvijay Singh is looking ahead in this race.

Kharge will step down after becoming the party president. Kharge was made the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha only last year when Ghulam Nabi Azad retired. Both Chidambaram and Digvijay Singh are the senior-most Congress MPs in the Upper House. Party sources say that keeping in mind the regional balance, Digvijay Singh may get a chance.

It will be difficult for both the party chief and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha to be from the South, especially when leaders in the Lok Sabha are also from the East. The party would like to balance this by leading a leader from the Hindi belt. Given this, Digvijay Singh can get a chance.

Digvijay Singh’s name was earlier for the post of Congress President but he withdrew the claim on the last day of nomination. Digvijay Singh said that he cannot fight against Kharge, he is my senior. “I had met Kharge and told him that if he contests, I will not contest,” he said.
