After scrap of old vehicles, there will be so much exemption on road tax, know what to do

Delhi Scrap Policy: The Delhi government today gave in-principle approval to provide concession in road tax to new vehicle buyers after scrapping their old vehicles. This policy will come into force after the final approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena. The adoption of new vehicles of advanced fuel standards will be accelerated by scrapping the vehicles. On scrapping of old vehicles, you will get ‘Certification of Deposit’ from the registered scrapping center of the government.

New vehicles registered under the BH (India) series are liable to deposit motor vehicle tax for two years as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Motor vehicle tax concession on purchase of new transport (commercial) vehicles on production of Certificate of Deposit will be 15 per cent of the total motor vehicle tax paid at the time of registration of new vehicles. With the introduction of this policy, the Kejriwal government aims to decongest Delhi’s roads and reduce the number of old polluting vehicles.

  • In case of petrol/CNG fuel in the price/cost slab of vehicles above Rs 10 lakh and up to Rs 20 lakh, maximum concession of up to 15 per cent in motor vehicle tax will be available. In case of diesel fuel, a maximum exemption of up to 10 per cent will be given in motor vehicle tax.
  • In the case of petrol/CNG fuel in the price/cost slab of vehicles above Rs 20 lakh, a maximum concession of up to 12.5 per cent in motor vehicle tax will be available. On the other hand, in case of diesel fuel, maximum exemption of up to eight percent will be given in motor vehicle tax.
