Hooghly Haripal Rape Case: A case of brutality against a 15-year-old girl has come to light in Hooghly district of West Bengal. This incident, which happened on Friday night, has raised serious questions about women’s safety in the state. According to the information, the girl was thrown on the roadside in an unconscious state. If reports are to be believed, she was allegedly kidnapped in a car when she was returning from her tuition.
According to India Today’s report, the girl was found unconscious in Haripal area with her clothes torn. The girl was treated at a local hospital and medical examination was done. Seeing the seriousness of the case, West Bengal Police has started an investigation. However, the police has said that there are no suspects in the case at the moment and no concrete clues have been found during the investigation at this time. The police has urged the public to respect the privacy of the girl and her family and strict legal action will be taken against those spreading rumors.
The incident has sparked a fresh controversy over the safety of women in West Bengal. The BJP has alleged that the police are trying to cover up the incident. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said, “Mamata Banerjee’s police have surrounded the hospital, media is not being allowed entry and local TMC leaders are controlling the situation so that the incident cannot be reported.” Malviya demanded Mamata Banerjee’s resignation and called the state the most unsafe place for women. He tweeted, “Mamata Banerjee has failed. She must resign immediately. Enough is enough. She has not even set up fast-track courts to solve rape and POCSO cases.”
At the same time, public anger is also increasing on the case of rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. On August 9, the half-naked body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital. In this case, a civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested a day later by the Kolkata Police. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating this case. The Mamata government, which is surrounded on all sides regarding law and order after the Kolkata incident, has once again been put in the dock by the brutality in Hooghly.
