Bengaluru: After the assembly elections in Karnataka, Bharatiya Janata Party has now started preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. The party has also started making changes in the organization. After the new state president, the party has now announced its leader in the assembly as well. BJP former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok has been elected as the leader of opposition in the Karnataka Assembly.
According to the information, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP National General Secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam, BJP State Unit President B.Y. Vijayendra and former Chief Ministers B. S. Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai were present in the legislature party meeting. At the meeting, Ashok was elected as the leader of the opposition in the state assembly.
Ashok has been Deputy Chief Minister from July 2012 to May 2013.
Ashok, a seven-time BJP MLA, was the Deputy Chief Minister in the BJP government from July 2012 to May 2013. The senior BJP leader has worked with five chief ministers as a cabinet member. As a minister he held the charge of various departments like Home, Revenue, Municipal Administration, Transport and Health and Family Welfare. Ashok is a prominent Vokkaliga community face in the party. This community is especially spread in the southern parts of Karnataka such as Bengaluru, Chikkaballapura, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Kolar, Tumkuru and Chikkamagaluru.
Recently Vijayendra Yediyurappa had become the state president.
