Both these Indian players broke many big records on the cricket field, but now the time for their retirement has also come near. Both these senior players have retired from T20, but are still playing ODIs and Tests. Rohit Sharma is now 37 years old, while Virat Kohli will turn 36 in November. In such a situation, this question is being asked for them as well that who can fill their shoes. In such a situation, veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla named Shubman Gill and Rituraj Gaikwad.
Piyush Chawla feels that in the coming times, Gill and Gaikwad can replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian team. However, it will not be easy for Gaikwad as he is still struggling to make his place in the team.
On Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, Piyush Chawla said, “Shubman Gill – because the way his technique is, when you go through a little bad form, then the batsman who is technically strong, comes out of bad form quickly… You see, any batsman, who has a good technique, cannot remain out of form for a long time. So for me definitely Shubman Gill and Rituraj Gaikwad.”
Rituraj Gaikwad, who made his debut in 2021, has played 6 ODIs and 23 T20 matches for India so far, in which he has a T20 century to his name. He is not able to make his place in the team consistently.
On this Chawla said, “That is part and parcel, that will keep happening…but you see, whenever they get a chance, they come and look different. So for me these two players are special.”
