Al-Shabaab terrorists attack in Somalia, 9 including 3 soldiers killed, 20 injured
Mogadishu. Nine people, including three security forces, were killed in an attack by al-Shabaab Islamist terrorists on a beach restaurant in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Friday night. Somalia’s police said that a hotel located on the coast of the capital Mogadishu was attacked by extremists on Friday night. 9 people have died in this, including 3 soldiers, 6 civilians.
Somalia’s security forces ended a 12-hour siege on the Pearl Hotel on Saturday morning after an hours-long firefight with terrorists. According to the police, around 84 people including officers were rescued. The police said in a statement that six civilians and three soldiers were killed in the attack that started at 7.55 pm local time. 10 others have been injured in this attack.
Al-Shabaab, an organization affiliated with al-Qaeda in East Africa, has claimed responsibility for the attack. This extremist organization of Somalia is notorious for attacks on hotels and other high-profile places in Mogadishu. Witnesses told The Associated Press (AP) that some people were trapped at the Pearl Beach Hotel. This hotel is popular among government officials. ‘The Lido Beach’ is the most popular ‘Beach’ of Mogadishu.
Abdulkadir Adan, director of the Amin Ambulance Service, said that what happened last night was very unfortunate. It was the first complex attack on a hotel in Mogadishu as the government deployed thousands of military police officers to the city to restore stability in the strife-torn capital.
