Amazing jacket worn by PM Modi in Parliament, prepared by recycling plastic bottles
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said in a tweet, ‘Modi ji doesn’t just talk, he also leads from the front. A great way to promote climate consciousness.’ Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri thanked the Prime Minister for wearing a jacket made of cloth using recycled bottles. Puri tweeted, ‘His leadership for the LIFE movement is truly an example. India led the global mass movement in inspiring individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment.
IOC has gifted this jacket to PM Modi
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) presented the jacket to the Prime Minister during the India Energy Week in Bengaluru on Monday. He also ‘launched’ various costumes under Indian Oil’s ‘Unbottled’ initiative at the event. Officials said that in line with the Prime Minister’s call to phase out ‘single-use plastic’, Indian Oil has prescribed a dress for retail customer attendants and personnel who deliver LPG (LPG cylinders) to consumers. Made from recycled polyester (RPET) and cotton.
Jacket made from 28 used RPET bottles
Each Indian Oil customer attendant costume will be made from recycled approximately 28 used RPET bottles. The PSU is taking this initiative forward through ‘Unbottled’ brand for sustainable textiles. Under this brand, IOC aims to meet the requirement of clothing for customer attendants of other oil marketing companies, non-combat uniforms for the military, supply clothing for institutions and also sell to retail customers.
‘Life’s a lesson for all’
Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, ‘Life’s lesson for all.’ BJP leader Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that by wearing such a jacket, Modi has shown that an eco-friendly lifestyle is not only sustainable but also fashionable. BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra said that promoting pro-environment initiatives has been one of the core philosophies of the Prime Minister. In this regard, PM Modi wore a jacket made of recycled plastic bottles during the Parliament session today, Patra said in a tweet.
Shahzad Poonawalla, another national spokesperson of the BJP, went a step further and targeted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for wearing a Louis Vuitton scarf in Parliament. Poonawalla shared a picture on Twitter detailing the cost of the scarf worn by Kharge and compared the Congress leader’s “expensive” fashion to Modi’s “sustainable fashion”.
