Arrest warrant issued against Union Minister of State Nishith Pramanik in theft case

West Bengal News: A court in Alipurduar, West Bengal, has issued an arrest warrant against Union Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik in connection with the thefts in two jewelery shops 13 years ago. The case was heard in the court of the Judicial Magistrate and when the arrest warrant was issued, there was no lawyer present for the BJP MP Pramanik.

A warrant was issued against the minister as well as against another accused on 11 November. Pramanik’s lawyer Dulal Ghosh, however, did not elaborate on his next legal course of action. Jewelery shops located near Alipurduar railway station and Birpara were robbed in 2009. Public Prosecutor J. Mazumdar told on Wednesday, November 16 that on the instructions of Calcutta High Court ‘MP/MLA’ of North 24 Parganas district. The trial was transferred from the court to the Alipurduar court.

Pramanik joined BJP in the year 2019

Pramanik, a resident of Dinhata town bordering Bangladesh in North Bengal, was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 2019. He had joined BJP in February, 2019. Earlier he was in Trinamool Congress from where he was expelled on charges of anti-party activities. When contacted, Alipurduar Superintendent of Police refused to comment in this regard.

There was also a fatal attack

A week ago the news of a fatal attack on Pramanik had also come. The BJP alleged that the Union minister was attacked by goons of the state’s ruling party Trinamool Congress in Coochbehar’s Sittai. The party had said that stones were pelted at Pramanik’s convoy and bombs were also thrown. After this BJP workers clashed with TMC workers. Tension prevailed in the area after the incident and additional police force was deployed.
