Special Public Prosecutor R.C. Kodekar told the media that the victim had registered a case with the Surat police, which was transferred to the Ahmedabad police in 2013. The Chandkheda police station had registered a case against 8 people, including Asaram Bapu and his son Narayan Sai, under various sections of the IPC, including gang rape by one or more persons, common intention, unnatural offences, criminal force on women, wrongful including hostage-taking and criminal intimidation.

Asaram is currently in Jodhpur jail after being convicted in another rape case, while a separate trial against Narayan Sai is going on in a Surat court. Two sisters had filed a complaint against Asaram and his son, alleging that they were raped between 1997 and 2006 at the Motera ashram, near Ahmedabad, run by Asaram and his son. The younger sister had filed a complaint against Narayan Sai and the elder against Asaram.

According to the FIR lodged at Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda police station, Asaram raped the woman several times between 2001 and 2006, when she lived at his ashram on the outskirts of the city. In October 2013, a Surat-based woman had filed a case against Asaram and seven others alleging rape and illegal confinement. One of the accused died during the pendency of the trial.
