Congress wants the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project to be included in the national project
BJP included it in the priority list of the National Perspective Plan for river linking.

Jaipur. The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project will be one of the biggest issues of Eastern Rajasthan in the assembly elections to be held in Rajasthan this year. Its effect is going to be on 86 assembly seats, which are less than half of the state in 13 districts. Both the major parties have been blaming each other for the delay in this important project which has become the lifeline of more than three crore people.

Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project will benefit 2.8 lakh hectares of land in 13 districts and more than three crore people. Congress is constantly demanding to give this project the status of a national project.

40 thousand crore rupees eastern canal project
Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) covers 13 districts including Alwar, Bharatpur, Dhaulpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, Jaipur, Ajmer, Tonk, Bundi, Kota, Baran and Jhalawar. These districts of eastern Rajasthan come under Hadauti, Mewat, Dhundhar, Merwara and Braj divisions. The purpose of ERCP is to use the surplus water available during the rainy season in the Chambal river and its tributaries (Kunnu, Parvati, Kalisindh) flowing in southern Rajasthan, in the eastern districts of the state, where there is a shortage of drinking water and water for irrigation. lives. The cost of this project has been estimated to be around 40 thousand crore rupees.

Congress is strong in half of the ERCP districts
A total of 86 assembly seats come in the 13 districts that come under ERCP. Congress has been strong in half of these districts. In Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawaimadhopur, Tonk, Dausa districts, BJP has only one MLA from Dholpur seat. In eastern Rajasthan, the Congress wants to strengthen its hold again by raising the issue of ERCP. Congress strategists feel that the party can get benefited by cornering the central government on the issue of Eastern Canal.

‘Not declaring a national project is a breach of promise’
Politics is at its peak in the state regarding ERCP. Congress has demonstrated on the streets in 13 districts, including the capital Jaipur, demanding the declaration of the Eastern Canal as a national project. CM Ashok Gehlot has also directly targeted the Union Water Power Minister. Gehlot said that it should have happened that he should have fulfilled the PM’s promise by giving ERCP the status of 17th National Project along with the 16 already running National Projects. But he has no interest in his other projects of Rajasthan, but it is unfortunate that he has no interest in getting the status of national project to ERCP, an important project of his own department. State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasara termed the non-declaration of ERCP as a national project as a breach of promise and betrayal of the public.

‘Congress is cheating the public in the name of ERCP’
According to Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a demand is being made to declare ERCP as a national project. But we have included it in the priority list of the National Perspective Plan for river linking. There will be five priority works in this plan. In the national project, where the amount of grant from the Government of India is 60 percent, in this it becomes 90 percent. The cost of ERCP project is 40 thousand crores. In the plan we have prepared, the cost is only 21-22 thousand crores. The scheme can be completed at half the cost and with only 10 percent state support. Instead of completing this scheme, the Congress government is deceiving the public by doing politics of dry throats in 13 districts.

This project will increase investment and revenue in East Rajasthan
However, it is certain that ERCP gets the status of a National Project or it is included in the National Perspective Plan for River Linking, it is sure to be good for East Rajasthan. That’s why this is going to be a big issue in the next elections. This is also important because, along with getting irrigation water and drinking water, it will result in increased investment and revenue in the state. Ground water will improve in the rural areas of eastern Rajasthan. This project will bring a positive change in the socio-economic conditions of the local people. In addition, the project envisages a special emphasis on the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor that will lead to sustainable water sources that will help develop industries in the region.
