Assembly elections have been announced in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The Election Commission announced the election schedule in a press conference on Friday. Voting will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir, while voting will be held in a single round in Haryana. The election results for both will be announced simultaneously on October 4. The notification for the first round in Jammu and Kashmir will be issued on the 20th and voting will be held on September 18. The second round of voting will be held on September 25 and the third round on October 1.
Now talking about Haryana, voting will be held here in a single round on October 1 and the results will be declared on the 4th along with Jammu and Kashmir. The final list of voters in Haryana will be released on August 27. 2.1 crore voters will cast their votes in the state. There will be a total of 20 thousand 629 polling booths in the state. CEC Rajiv Kumar said that this time we will make polling booths in multi-storey buildings as well. Apart from this, this will also be done in slum areas. He said that there was a need to do this in Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat, which has been taken care of. Arrangements for things like water, toilets, ramps, wheelchairs will be made in all the booths.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that the youth of Kashmir are excited about the elections. He said that we will release the voter list in Jammu and Kashmir on August 20. The people there want to see the picture change. 11,838 polling stations will be set up in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that we were waiting for the weather to improve a bit for the elections. He said that 20 lakh youth in Jammu and Kashmir are ready to vote. We had laid the foundation of electoral democracy in Kashmir in the 2024 general elections. Now there is a need to build a building on it. He said that all candidates will be given equal security.
The political situation in Jammu and Kashmir has also changed after August 5, 2019. After the removal of Article 370 and the reorganization of the state, Jammu and Kashmir has been declared a Union Territory. Apart from this, there are now a total of 90 assembly seats here. Earlier there used to be 87 seats, out of which 4 seats were from Ladakh. In such a situation, when Ladakh became a separate Union Territory after the reorganization, only 83 seats were left in Jammu and Kashmir. Then the Election Commission added 7 seats after delimitation and now there are a total of 90 seats. Out of these, 47 seats are from Kashmir region. At the same time, there are now 43 seats in Jammu. Earlier there used to be 46 seats in Kashmir and 37 seats in Jammu region.
Now what is the equation of seats in Jammu and Kashmir
After delimitation, 6 assembly seats were added in Jammu region and one seat was added in Kashmir as well. The last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 2014. There was an unexpected change after the election. BJP and PDP formed the government together, which could not last for full 5 years. Then in 2019, Article 370 was removed during the Governor’s rule and after reorganization, Jammu and Kashmir became a Union Territory instead of a state. Let us tell you that the Supreme Court has ordered to conduct elections in Jammu and Kashmir by 30 September.
How many seats did BJP win in Haryana in 2019
Let us tell you that there are a total of 90 assembly seats in Haryana, out of which BJP currently has only 40 MLAs. It is running the government with independents, but this time it will face the challenge of making a comeback. BJP formed the government on its own for the first time in Haryana in 2014 and has been in power twice in a row since then. Just a few months before the elections, its alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party, which was in power in the state, has broken, which happened after the 2019 assembly elections. In this way, for the third consecutive time, BJP is going to enter the electoral battle alone.
BJP was leading on 44 seats in Haryana Lok Sabha elections
It is worth mentioning that in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 5 out of 10 seats in the state. According to the Vidhan Sabha, it had a lead in 44 out of 90 Vidhan Sabhas. This is the reason why BJP is going to contest the elections with the hope of remaining in power for the third time. On the other hand, Congress is hopeful that after losing twice, the situation may turn in its favour this time. In Haryana, voting usually takes place in a single round. The reason for this is that Haryana is a small state and the security challenges are also not like Jammu-Kashmir or Naxal-affected areas.
